Taiwan ICDF and IICA strengthen cooperation to boost agriculture in Saint Lucia and other countries in the Caribbean

IICA and the ICDF Taiwan Technical Mission in Saint Lucia sign an agreement to foster greater collaboration on areas of common priority including commercial composting and enhancing institutional mechanisms for improved management of the agri-food supply chain in Saint Lucia and the Eastern Caribbean States.

Castries, Saint Lucia, 6 July 2020 (IICA). The Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) signed a General Technical Cooperation Agreement on 30th June 2020 to formalize and deepen cooperation for agricultural development in Saint Lucia and the Eastern Caribbean States.

The agreement comprises of a project and action plan for the implementation of a special project of capacity building in commercial compost production and enhanced institutional mechanisms for safe supply of food in Saint Lucia.

The signing of the General Technical Cooperation Agreement represents a significant step forward for both institutions which had signed a similar technical cooperation agreement for collaboration in Saint Kitts and Nevis in 2019. The Taiwan Technical Missions in these countries are the technical cooperation arms for agriculture for the Taiwan ICDF.

“This agreement represents the goodwill and willingness of both parties to cooperate for mutual benefit and for the benefit of growth and development in Saint Lucia” said Ambassador Douglas Shen.

Both institutions have agreed to foster closer tripartite cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Physical Planning, Natural Resources and Cooperatives in Saint Lucia.

 “Cooperation allows us to be more effective and efficient in the use of resources to deliver technical cooperation services; especially in these difficult times”, stated Gregg Rawlins, IICA Representative in the Eastern Caribbean States.

“We need to work together to transform the words enshrined in this agreement into tangible actions through the joint preparation and execution of a work plan over the life of this agreement. I pledge the full commitment of IICA to this process” he added.

Bolivia implements next stage of efforts to save high-altitude wetlands and boost camelid production

In the departments of La Paz, Oruro and Potosí, Altiplano communities have begun implementing the Bofedal-Camélidos-Gente: Sistemas Resilientes project, an initiative aimed at strengthening the climate resilience of high-altitude wetlands and of families dedicated to camelid production, executed by IICA in Bolivia with funding from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
