It is officially Fall!  Although Summer is one of the most anticipated seasons in Canada, this year was fraught with anxiety and trepidation on behalf of friends, colleagues and citizens of our member countries affected by the recent onslaught of detrimental environmental events. The Delegation in Canada wishes to express solidarity and our own collective “hug” to colleagues in Mexico, Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, and express our readiness to assist in meeting specific requirements.

During the Summer months, the Delegation had an interesting mix of developments.  Both our in-house Intern Emily as well as Pedro, our Technical Cooperation Specialist completed their time with us, after a demanding and largely productive tenure. The office was noticeably quieter !

Among the period’s highlights were the active participation in the Global 4H Summit, FORAGRO’s Assembly of members and the Round Table colloquium on Agricultural trade in the northern region. The second phase of the Delegation’s sole FonTC project also made good progress, thanks to the team at the Delegation in Peru.  Success in the air, the Canadian team was motivated to submit its first Rapid Response Action application.  This was approved and we are looking forward to working in a new realm with the Jamaican Delegation.

As our networking efforts continue to yield value, the team took time to establish new ties, nurture existing connections and advance discussions on potential joint initiatives.  Participation in the celebration of national days of some 14 of our member countries of course presented ample opportunity for enhanced networking!

The Delegation in Canada has started the final quarter of the year, strongly focussed on delivering results on its 2017 work plan while we seek to respond to the emerging and urgent needs in our IICA member countries.

Un fuerte abrazo!
