WEF and IICA are exploring options to promote together this approach in Latin America.

The 2016 New Vision for Agriculture Transformation Leaders Workshop 2016 organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands from October 31 to November 1, with the participation of over 90 senior practitioners driving action and offering practical models to achieve food security, environmental sustainability and economic growth through the agriculture sector. IICA was represented by Daniel Rodríguez Sáenz, Agribusiness and Commercialization specialist of IICA´s Delegation in the United States of America and Leader of the IICA´s flagship project “Competitiveness and Sustainability of Agricultural Chains.

WEF´s The New Vision for Agriculture (NVA) promotes multistakeholder, market-based efforts to deliver food security, environmental sustainability and economic opportunity through agriculture. Under the System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Food Security and Agriculture, the NVA engages over 500 organizations worldwide and has catalyzed action-oriented partnerships in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, including Grow Africa and Grow Asia. Together, these efforts have mobilized over $10.5 billion in investment commitments and engaged over 10 million farmers.

The event provided an informal and highly participatory space for participants to exchange insights, engage in deep-dive problem-solving, develop practical solutions and forge new collaborations.

Since most NVA actions have been developed in Africa and Asia, WEF and IICA are exploring options to promote together this approach in Latin America.
