Dairy’s Role in a Responsible and Sustainable Food System

In collaboration with the Global Dairy Platform (GDP) and the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC), the Webinar will explore the role of dairy in a responsible and sustainable food system. The Webinar will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation to Spanish and Portuguese. In addition to the presentations, discussions facilitated by industry experts will promote the audience interaction. The presentations and comments from the audience will be compiled in a publication to be edited by IICA. In four inter-related panels, internationally renowned experts will share their experiences and the latest technical advances on:
- Dairy’s Nutrition and Health Benefits. The presentation will address the nutritional value of dairy products in terms of their protein and energy balance, vitamins and minerals, drawing a parallel with plant based sources of nutrients, considering bioavailability factors and daily intake. Food safety aspects of modern dairy processing procedures will be discussed.
- Dairy and Environmental Sustainability. Speakers will discuss the environmental impact of dairy and explore the effects of modern practices on environmental and economic sustainability.
- Dairy’s Role in Socio-Economic Development. The presentation will provide the audience with a comprehensive analysis of social and economic indicators commonly impacted by dairy, either at the primary production level or at other levels of the value chain. “Case Studies” will illustrate different situations observed in the Americas and other areas of the world.
- “Animal Care”. Modern “animal care” concepts and practices will be discussed in terms of ethical value, market access and sustainability. Questions related to custom

Target Audience: Government officials, industry representatives, farmers, academics, members of civil society and media operators from IICA Member Countries.
