Available for download is the technical proposal that will guide the ministerial negotiations on water and agriculture, which was prepared by IICA and Argentine specialists.
San Jose, Costa Rica, September 9, 2013 (IICA). Very detailed technical information on the use of water in agriculture in the hemisphere, as well as concrete examples of the progress that countries in the region have made with integrated water resources management, are some of the items made available today on the Web page of the Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas 2013, which will be taking place in Argentina from September 24-27.
The platform will be used to provide up-to-date information on the meeting, both before and during the event. At this important activity in the city of Buenos Aires, the ministers will consider a technical proposal from the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) aimed at developing a hemispheric agenda that would make it possible to improve the way in which the agricultural sector uses water. The proposal, entitled Water to feed the land, can be downloaded from the Web platform.
The delegations of IICA’s member countries can also register on line, since the Ministerial Meeting will be held parallel to a meeting of the Inter-American Board of Agriculture (IABA), the Institute’s highest-level governing body.
Organized by the Government of Argentina and IICA, the Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas 2013 will be a groundbreaking event. For the first time ever, the hemisphere’s agricultural authorities will focus on the issue of water, a vitally important resource on whose sustainable use agriculture’s capacity to produce the food that will be needed by a burgeoning world population will largely depend.
