IICA Belize hosts Accountability Seminar 2019

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture IICA Delegation in Belize held is accountability seminar on June 27, 2019 at the Administrative and Technical Services Conference Room at the National Agriculture and Trade Showgrounds, in Belmopan, Belize.   This annual event provides an opportunity for the IICA Delegation to reflect on the process that it has accomplished over the past year.   Over 30 persons attended the seminar including the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, Environment, Sustainable Development and Immigration, Hon. Senator Godwin Hulse, who delivered the keynote address. In his address, the Minister recognized the important work of IICA as a key partner of the Ministry in the development of the agriculture sector in Belize and made note that we as agricultural stakeholders have a great responsibility for providing safe quality nutritious food.    Other participants included many of the stakeholders with whom IICA works in close collaboration such as the technical officers of the Ministry of Agriculture, CARDI, BAHA, OIRSA, PAHO, DFC, PACT, PCB, Members of the Diplomatic Corp and other development partners and private and civil society stakeholders.  The highlights of progress made in 2018 was presented by Mr. Willie Chan, Technical Coordinator, in collaboration with participation of the stakeholders who shared their experience working with IICA.

A document prepared with the consensus of multiple stakeholders in the production and industrial sectors, stresses that the region must use evidence to strengthen its positioning, by citing scientific data that demonstrates the true impact of agricultural sustainability practices in Argentina and South America.
