Panelists at a joint United States-United Arab Emirates global summit maintain that female empowerment benefits rural communities and economies

This was the main conclusion of a debate among ministers of Agriculture, private sector representatives and researchers at the Aim for Climate (Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate) Summit – a joint initiative of the governments of the United States and the United Arab Emirates. The latter will host this year’s COP28 meeting, with a mission to increase investments in climate smart agriculture and agrifood system innovation.

Investments to strengthen innovation and climate smart agriculture are on the rise worldwide, according to a joint US – UAE conference attended by IICA

The three-day AIM for Climate Summit has attracted public policymakers, industry leaders, producers, civil society representatives, scientists and researchers from across the world. The aim is to accelerate the implementation of innovations to guarantee food and nutrition security. Close to 50 governments from across the world are participating in the initiative.

Marilyn Hershey, a rural leader who strives to be a voice for U.S. dairy farmers, is named IICA Leader of Rurality of the Americas

Hershey is the first woman to have been appointed to her current position as Chair of Dairy Management Inc., the association of United States dairy farmers that has spearheaded a promotional, research and educational program on the sector to encourage greater milk consumption in the country. It is funded by farmers and the industry.
