During the event, held at IICA's headquarters, more than 20 representatives from official sanitary, phytosanitary, and food safety services participated in discussions aimed at strengthening countries’ capacity to understand and implement equivalence agreements on sanitary and phytosanitary measures, thus facilitating global and regional trade in agri-food products.

Representatives of the Embassy of Uruguay in Brasilia and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) met with officials from six South American countries to discuss logistics integration as key to the competitiveness of agrifood systems in the Southern Cone.

This high-level event, a global reference on agriculture and food issues, brings together world leaders and renowned experts in agricultural development, public policy, best practices, and nutrition. It is organized by the World Food Prize Foundation (WFP) in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jack Bobo, Director of the Food Systems Institute at the University of Nottingham, engaged in discussions with IICA’s Advisory Committee on Communication for Agriculture and Food Security, composed of journalists covering the sector and experts in public and institutional communication.

At the meeting, Qu Dongyu, accompanied by FAO Chief Economist Máximo Torero and senior members of his team, and Otero, with his special advisors Jorge Werthein and Carlos Cherniak, reviewed IICA and FAO’s joint cooperation actions, which include the preparation of a report on the outlook for agricultural and rural development in Latin America and the Caribbean, and support for CELAC’s food security plan.
