San Jose, 3 March 2022 (IICA). This Friday, the Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Manuel Otero, will take part in a discussion of the hemispheric agricultural agenda, hosted by the Council of the Americas. Susan Segal, President and CEO of The Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA), will lead the discussion.

Otero’s presentation will highlight the ways in which the region’s leaders can achieve progress in addressing key pending issues for the agrifood sector at the 2022 Summit of the Americas. The summit, which will take place in Los Angeles, California, in June, will focus on “building a sustainable, resilient and equitable future” for our hemisphere.

The Council of the Americas is an important U.S. business forum that brings together investors, senior officials and academics, and is considered a platform for the defense of democracy, free trade and open markets in the Americas, as engines of development.

In 2021, the Council of the Americas and IICA jointly organized a series of activities with the participation of influential experts from the public and private sectors, with a view to fostering dialogue and consensus-building in preparation for the Food Systems Summit held in September.

The activity will take place on Friday, March 4, at 10:00 a.m. EST. To participate, you must contact Jorge Merino at dcprograms@as-coa.org. A video of the event will be uploaded to the AS/COA’s YouTube channel.
