Joelin Santos, founder of a life-changing pineapple producer association in the Dominican Republic, recognized by IICA as a ā€œLeader of Ruralityā€ Ā 

Joelin was raised in the countryside and migrated to the city to pursue university studies. He later returned home, convinced that professionalizing agricultural activity would be the key to enabling other rural producers in the Dominican province of Monte Plata and himself to enjoy a decent quality of life.

The Alliance against the ā€œbanana pandemicā€ consolidates its work and sets new priorities with a focus on producers and consumers

Though its origins are from Asia, TR4 has been spreading westward and in 2019, it was detected in Colombia, setting off alarms in the tropical zones of Latin America and the Caribbean, whose countries are among the largest banana producers and exporters in the world. Later, in 2021, a strain was detected in Northern Peru.
