Villahermosa, Mexico, 14 May 2026 – IICA Canada achieved a significant milestone in the implementation of the TeleGAN project through a four-day technical workshop, held from 11 to 14 May in Villahermosa, Mexico. The event focused on strengthening the capacities of the project’s technical team in remote sensing, biomass monitoring and farm georeferencing, while enhancing the technical support provided to small and medium-scale livestock producers.

Participants explored first-hand how satellite-based information and digital tools can be integrated to support decision-making for sustainable livestock management. As part of these activities, the TeleGAN mobile application underwent field beta testing, including its new Monitoring 360° module, which enables producers and technicians to monitor pasture conditions, assess forage availability, record environmental observations, collect biomass sampling data and track sustainable livestock practices through georeferenced farm and paddock information. The exercise allowed the technical team to validate key functionalities under real-world conditions and gather valuable feedback to further refine the platform.

Participants from Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica gathered in Villahermosa as part of TeleGAN’s technical workshop and field testing activities.

For local producers, the value of TeleGAN lies in its ability to bring practical, easy-to-use technology directly to the farm. Ángel, a young beneficiary of the project, highlighted how the application is helping producers improve the management of their farms through accessible digital tools. “The app is a great tool because it helps us keep track of our farms and make better decisions. Even when we are working on our own, we can use satellite information to check the condition of our ranches,” he said.

The workshop brought together technical specialists from Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica, along with representatives from the National Institute for Forestry, Agricultural and Livestock Research of Mexico (INIFAP) and the Secretariat of Agricultural Development, Forestry and Fisheries of the State of Tabasco (SEDAFOP). The activities reinforced cooperation among implementing partners and explored opportunities for collaboration in areas such as biomass estimation, satellite model calibration and digital innovation for the livestock sector.

Participants tested TeleGAN’s new Monitoring 360° module, designed to support farm monitoring and data collection in the field.
