Agricultural attaches of the Americas to the European Union (EU), based in Brussels, Belgium, and Manuel Otero, Director General of IICA, engaged in a virtual dialogue organized by the Argentine Embassy in the EU. They discussed strategies and courses of action to address the current spike in food and energy prices and the crisis in the chemical fertilizer market.

Argentina and IICA join forces to cooperate with Haiti

They will work together to relaunch INTA’s Pro Huerta Program, which was implemented successfully between 2006 and 2015. With the participation of IICA specialists, the two institutions aim to improve the food security situation in the Caribbean country.

Summit of the Americas: U.S. announces multi-million dollar aid package for Central America, while IICA calls for a “hemispheric partnership” to tackle the food crisis

The panelists discussed actions and proposals that must be implemented in the Americas, by governments, the private sector, civil society and academia, in the face of mounting crises posed by the war in Eastern Europe, the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. The situation is triggering increases in the prices of food and energy, as well as disruptions in the trade of fertilizers, putting the people of the most vulnerable countries in Latin America and the Caribbean in a precarious position.

Agrifood enterprises commit to working more closely with farmers in view of the threat to food security posed by the crisis in Eastern Europe

At the invitation of IICA, representatives of the companies were engaged in a dialogue on the challenges posed by the situation. "The region has the productive resources to tackle the challenge of balancing these apparently contradictory goals; that is, increasing production in light of its role at global level, while properly addressing priorities in climate action, inclusion and the reduction of poverty", said the Director General of IICA, Manuel Otero.
