Follow up meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture to present concept proposal on climate smart agriculture and research
Climate change is already having an impact on agriculture and food security because of increased prevalence of extreme events and increased unpredictability of weather patterns. This can lead to reductions in production and lower incomes in vulnerable areas. These changes can also affect global food prices. The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture presented a draft concept proposal to the Ministry of Agriculture team. The proposal included the area of climate smart agriculture practices, innovation, and strengthening of the Central Farm Research Station. Based on a productive discussion, recommendations were made on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, and IICA agreed to include areas of importance such as, agriculture financing, agro processing and crop insurance, suggested by the team.
