WTO-IICA Reference Centre

The WTO-IICA Center specializes in agricultural trade and provides services to 34 countries in the Americas. The Center operates out of the Venezuela Library, located at IICA Headquarters in San José, Costa Rica. Government officials, representatives of the academic sector, students, businesspeople, communication specialists and all other interested persons from IICA member countries have access to the Center’s technical consultancy and training services in agricultural trade.

What products and services does the Reference Center offer?

  • Personalized and specialized guidance on issues related to the WTO and international agricultural trade.
  • Training sessions to facilitate access to and the use of data (statistics) on agricultural trade, as well as other information, publications and resources.
  • Organization of technical activities on agricultural trade and related topics (environment, food security, policies, trade agreements, requirements, etc.).
  • Access to materials and publications by IICA, WTO and other entities that address issues related to agricultural trade. The Center provides contact with library science specialists in order to faciltate access to resources on specialized topics related to agriculture.
  • Reference materials and creation of personalized educational materials for technical courses and activities (reading materials, videos, etc.).
  • Contact with specialists in international agricultural trade and other related topics such as agricultural health and safety, economics, policies, trade negotiations, the environment, climate change, and many more.
  • Dissemination of news and publications on agricultural trade, trends, markets, agreements, treaties, negotiations, and other topics.

    Countries strengthen capacities around the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures and good regulatory practices

    A Regional workshop held in Costa Rica was attended by 18 IICA member states and Cuba to share experiences in the subject and take good practices back to their countries.
