The great rural photographer Pablo Oliveri selects some of his favorite photographs
Buenos Aires, 23 August 2021 (IICA). Pablo Oliveri is an agricultural engineer. He graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with a postgraduate degree in Rural Development, and has transformed his passion for rurality into images.
For nearly 30 years, he has specialized in photography and has taken hundreds of trips portraying the life and work of those who sustain global food security with their efforts every day.
“At some point, I started taking photos and realized that this is what I wanted to do. I fell in love with photography and, being an agronomist, I combined it with my knowledge of agricultural issues. I learned while I worked, and also received training from different teachers”, says Oliveri, before describing some of his best photos.
Photo taken in the province of Tucumán during the sugar harvest in 1995. This photo is part of the series "Hombres y Mujeres de nuestra Tierra” (“Men and women of our land”). It was also one of the 10 photos included in the series that won the 2nd prize in the contest "El Campo Argentino”, organized by the newspaper La Nación in 1996.Photo taken in the town of Tres Arroyos, province of Buenos Aires, in 1996. The name of the piece is “Tejedora mapuche” (“Mapuche weaver”) and is part of the series Hombres y Mujeres de nuestra Tierra. The photo received the first prize in the category "The Working Woman" of the contest “Los trabajos y los días” ("The jobs and the days") organized annually by the National Trade Union School in Medellín, Colombia, in the year 2007.Photo taken at the Botanical Gardens of the School of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires (FAUBA) in 2012. Juan José Valla, agricultural engineer, professor of botany and one of the great professors of the School of Agronomy, is showing the garden to a group of students. The image is part of the “Profesores” ("Professors") series, exhibited at the FAUBA art gallery in 2017.
