  • At this year’s Regional Water Dialogues meeting, Latin American and Caribbean countries presented the projects they are implementing to tackle the water crisis

    They highlighted the pathways to improving the conditions and capacities of countries for well ordered, sustainable, competitive and inclusive water resource management, aligned with the agricultural and ecosystem challenges facing the region.
  • The Regional Water Dialogues in Latin America and the Caribbean began at IICA Headquarters with a strong call to bridge gaps in access to an essential resource for life and sustainable development

    This high-level event is organized by ECLAC and IICA in a hybrid format (combining in-person and virtual participation), combining high-level ministerial debates with a space for the exchange of successful experiences and lessons learned, with the aim of promoting good practices for water conservation and management.

    The severe drought is over and more favorable conditions for production are expected in different territories of South America, points out a climate report prepared by PROCISUR for ministers of the Southern Agricultural Council (CAS).

    In many regions –the document points out– there only started to be a significant amount of rainfall in January and February, along with more normal levels of water availability in the soil and in the different basins and natural reservoirs after the drought.
  • Ministers from the Southern Agricultural Council (CAS) member countries join forces to drive joint research on greenhouse gas emission and sequestration in agriculture

    With this decision, the CAS countries are seeking to reinforce their role in maintaining global food security and tackling the environmental crisis, thus fulfilling the objectives of the Paris Accord.

    8 March, International Women’s- Day IICA launches third edition of the “Introduction to Entrepreneurship for Rural Women” course

    The course, which is delivered in Spanish, free of cost, aims to promote capacity building, as well as the development of work tools and leadership in women-led businesses in rural areas.
  • IFPRI and IICA present a document at the WTO Ministerial Conference, highlighting the value of multilateralism and promoting greater Latin American participation in negotiations to strengthen global food security

    The publication, entitled “Navigating the Trade Landscape: A Latin American Perspective on the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference”, was launched as part of joint actions undertaken by IICA and IFPRI to promote greater participation of countries in the region in WTO agricultural trade negotiations and to provide an update on the advances in discussions and the consensus reached.
