  • Agriculture of the Americas flies the flag for sustainability at COP27 and highlights the role of producers and science-based policies in the fight against climate change

    During an event that placed sustainable agriculture at the top of the COP27 agenda, farmers, ranchers and public sector representatives from the Americas highlighted the good environmental practices applied by the agriculture sector, which guarantees global food security. They also reaffirmed the key role of science in developing pro-nature policies in the region.
  • The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and IICA are joining forces to promote greater prioritization of soil protection in public policies

    Andrea Meza, Deputy Executive Secretary of UNCCD, and Manuel Otero, Director General of IICA, agreed on this course of action at a meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, during the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27). The Convention brings together heads of State, ministers and negotiators, alongside climate activists, mayors and civil society and private sector representatives.
  • International Cocoa Organisation and IICA launched initiative to address cadmium levels in cocoa in Latin America and the Caribbean

    The project aims to support cocoa producing countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) meet the 2019 European Regulation, and others to follow, that set maximum levels for cadmium in cocoa and chocolate products.
  • More than 2,600 farming families throughout Latin American and the Caribbean benefitted from the IFAD-IICA project on innovative practices for climate change adaptation

    The initiative was designed to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and innovative practices for climate change adaptation in family farming and was implemented in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.
  • IICA appoints Enrique Iglesias as Goodwill Ambassador for Ibero-American Cooperation and Integration

    Enrique Iglesias, who is of Spanish-Uruguayan nationality, served as Ibero-American Secretary-General and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay and received the distinction for his influential contribution to driving friendly relations between Spain and the European Union and the Americas.
  • Pavilion at COP27 to showcase sustainable agriculture of the Americas and drive effective global climate action

    Backed by the countries of the Americas and 26 partners, IICA will set up the Home of Sustainable Agriculture in the Americas at the Convention Center in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt—home of COP27—to host 60 events centered on resilience, adaptation and mitigation.
