At IICA Executive Committee meeting, participants agree on the need to support small-scale farmers, expand access to technologies and improve the quality of life in the countryside to guarantee the future of agriculture
To ensure agriculture’s role as part of the solution to the challenges facing humanity, it is crucial to support small-scale farmers, foster cooperation among various stakeholders and improve access to technologies and the quality of life of rural communities. This was the consensus reached by participants in a discussion on the future of agriculture, which was held at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).In a ministerial meeting in Costa Rica, IICA launches the Hemispheric Fund for Agricultural Resilience and Sustainability in the Americas.
The Fund is aimed at improving the resilience of agri-food systems, supporting sustainable agricultural innovations, and optimizing the planning and execution processes of programs and projects, primarily in lower-income countries in the region.At IICA Executive Committee meeting, experts emphasize the key importance of preventive actions to halt the advance of animal diseases and ensure they do not impact food security in the Americas
Specialists from Chile’s SAG, the WOAH, OIRSA, APHIS-USDA and the Southern Cone Standing Veterinary Committee described the situation in the region in depth and urged governments to strengthen surveillance and rapid response systems for dealing with health emergencies.IICA recognizes Bayer Crop Science’s contribution to attracting youth and incorporating digital technologies into agriculture of the Americas
