The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, Martha Carvajalino, attended the Executive Committee Meeting of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in Costa Rica on Tuesday. Eight agricultural ministers and six deputy ministers of the Americas attended the session, where the hemispheric organization announced that it would strengthen technical actions to benefit rural areas, producers and small farmers in the country.Agricultural federations of the Americas and IICA agree to promote science and innovation to advance sustainable agriculture and increase the productivity of agrifood systems
Organized in Costa Rica by IICA and the Federation of Chambers of Agriculture and Agroindustry, the Meeting of Agricultural Federations of the Americas has concluded. The agricultural authorities of the Americas and representatives of the academic and private sectors began a two-day working session at IICA Headquarters in San Jose, Costa Rica, on the occasion of the 44th Regular Meeting of the Executive Committee, one of the governing bodies of the hemispheric organization. Therefore, we must take the right actions and if we succeed during that period, we will be all right forever”.Former Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Gustavo Manrique, the architect of the largest debt-for-nature swap, visited the IICA Headquarters and praised its contributions to agricultural sustainability
Manrique stated that he believes IICA has been "re-founded" to adapt to the modern realities of agriculture and sustainability and that the Institute "has focused on what both young people and farmers need and want today”.Ministers and senior officials of agriculture in the Americas will gather at IICA Headquarters in Costa Rica to discuss global agricultural trade and new threats to the health and future of the sector
